Who are we going to play as? I still like the Ottomans but we need to have some backup choices regardless of what we choose. If everyone states their favorite two choices we should be able to get a good poll with 3 top choices.

My choices: Ottoman and Dutch

That is what Fascism is for ;) (In fact that is one of the few things it is good for)

I'm not familiar with the new Conquest civs. Favorite attributes though are industrious, scientific, commercial. Militaristic maybe. Expansionist can help a lot early on a large continental or pangea map.

See if this helps. http://www.civ3.com/devupdates/abilitiespopup.cfm

That pop up doesn't have the correct abilities for new civs.

I like the Maya and the Sumerians...but it depends on what the map is...what will the map be?

What are the benefits or seafaring and agricultural civs?

I like the look of the Dutch UU and Ottomans are always a strong choice.

Agricultural
This civilization type is for the tribes that built their foundation on agricultural methods and used food to ensure their growth and prosperity.

Starting Techs: Pottery (or Masonry if paired with Expansionist characteristic)
Bonuses: Base city squares produce 1 additional food. Irrigated deserts produce extra food. Cheaper city improvement costs on Aqueducts, Recycling Plant, and Solar Plants.

Seafaring
This civilization type is for the tribes that used the power of the sea to forge their empires.

Starting Techs: Alphabet (or Pottery if paired with Commercial characteristic)
Bonuses: Typically, the start location is near the ocean. Cities built on coast receive a bonus commerce in the base city square. Seafaring Civs have less of a chance of sinking out at sea prior to researching Astronomy. Cheaper "water based" city improvements include Coastal Fortress, Harbor, Offshore Platform, and Commercial Docks. Ships move faster and have a reduced chance of sinking in the sea or ocean.

Which is the agricultural seafaring civ. Make that my third choice (in addition to Dutch and Ottomans.)

Ottomans are indeed a good nation. Which means they'll be taken.

Perhaps the Dutch, but again I'm not familiar with the C3C civs myself.

Yeah, we took them in the last one. It was only a two-way contest though which was surprising.

(I know it will be taken but) We should DEFINITELY be the Mayans. Agricultural rocks an immense amount, and Industrious is very important (especially if we get stuck in jungle or something like that).

Plus the Javelin Thrower can enslave new fast Workers, both from other civs and with Barbarians! Free Workers galore!

Trust me, I was a beta tester for Conquests, and these guys are the best. ;)

Check out my new thread posted on this subject:

As I stated in my post above, the Mayans are both Agricultural (a must) and Industrious (very very helpful, especially if we get bad terrain). However, I have little doubt that many other teams will want the Mayans also. :(

That will be decided when we no how many teams will be in each game. With 10 teams signed up I would expect 2 5-player games and a small map could do, but if a couple more teams sign up and we have 6-player games standard may be the best option. The current ISDG is on a large map iirc.

If we can all have 3 choices, then mine are (in order of preference):

1. Mayans (Agricultural, Industrious)
2. Sumerians (Agricultural, Scientific)
3. Incans (Agricultural, Expansionist)

To be honest, any Agricultural civ is fine with me. The Celts and Iroquois have good unique units for an early war....and should be given close consideration as well.

The Dutch and the Aztecs are less impressive to me. Though they are Agricultural, I don't necessarily like the rest of their bag. The Swiss Mercenary is nice for the Dutch, but the Seafaring trait doesn't go all that well with Agricultural. The Aztecs have a sucky UU, and I don't know about Militaristic...you can't even rush wonders with a military great leader anymore.
