When you vote on this poll, please state your reason for voting the way you did and if you vote for a pre-made map please state what guidelines the mapmaker should be given. (Should everyone have a lux, iron, cows, hills, etc)
This is a preliminary poll. A final poll will be held once we iron out the details of a pre-made map. Even if the vote is for a random map, we need these details in the event the UN vote goes to pre-made.

"What kind of map: yes or no?" Not sure how to vote for this one...
I would like the game to be on a random map inspected by the admin(s) to be fair for all teams. As in, more fair than the PTW ISDG map was. :p

Random map.
Fair, in the sense no-one is buggered from the start, not necessarily in terms of equality of early resources. If a team gets lucky at the start then thats the luck of the draw.

i voted yes
not shur yes or no but my thoughts...
the map must be checked by sombody eveybody should have a river and no jungle in there start unless its a lux tile other than that no changes to a random map if it premade then it should be a true balenced map eveybopdy has the same tiles exsatly but that would be boring ...

I'd rather have a jungle start than a tundra start...but I'm all for a random map that the admins make sure is decent for everyone.

Perhaps a view of the actual UN discussion would be of help here. http://cdgroup.org/forums/tbs/civ3/viewtopic.php?t=5230

I agree with the UN poster who suggested having a random map "with guidance". I think trying to make a map more "balanced" than that will be either too difficult or too boring.

We could create say 5 maps, we play the first turn on each map and then each team votes for the two that they would most like to use, and can veto one that they definitely don't like. All votes go via secret ballot to the game admin who will simply announce the result. (Probably best to create (players +1) maps so as to avoid all maps being vetoed).
We then carry on playing with the gamemap that gets the most votes.
I know there is no long term focus, but at least first city placement issues will be resolved.
Thoughts?

Sounds like a good idea. I would probably vote for it.

I like Dauphin's random map idea as well. I vote random map with this idea in mind. (but not if the map is fully random, and we only get one). Basically, I'm voting random with guidance.

Random with a choice of maps seems ok.

This poll has been superceded by another with more precise UN wording (all the teams will be voting the same choices.) It can be found here. http://www.civgaming.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4169
