City doesn't grow
Hi
Weird problem in Civ III. Some cities fill up their granary and food storage box, but refuse to grow. In the City Display, they say "growth in 9999 turns". They're not in civil disorder. This seems to happen to my 6-size cities - though my capital has reached 9 with no problems. What's going on here? The 6 on the city name on the map sometimes looks red, but I can't figure out if this means anything. I've tried creating a food shortage to make space in the granary/food storage, and then growing food again to reach the "growth" point. Display says "growth in 1 turn", then goes back to "growth in 9999 turns", and no growth takes place. Also, how do you get Iron to build Legions? I've got a city with an Iron resource, and a citizen working on it - but I haven't got the message "we now have Iron", and can't build Legions. Fine with Horses, but that's maybe because I built a city right on a Horses square. thanks! |

Re: City doesn't grow
You have to either build an aquaduct in the city or build the city on a river or freshwater lake to grow beyond size 6. Build a road on the iron and then build a road on every tile betseen it and the city to make a direct link to the iron. And before you ask again, all cities need a hospital to grow past size 12.

Re: City doesn't grow
Many thanks! It's annoying not having a printed manual.
