how soon should i build a granary in civ 4

Ie been told its pretty important to build a nother settler as soon as possible, and ive found that building a worker right away helps too...but assuming i build a worker and settler first, how much sooner should i build a granary....how important is it early on?

The larger the city, the greater the impact of a granary. Personally, I'd rather have the growth that comes from having two cities than a city with a granary, so I would go with additional settlers until expansion became undesirable.

Maybe this discussion should start about the ideas behind your choice, like the the old rule : expand or die!

My list of what to build in the first period of your existence on the map:

1.Worker to create 1. farms (for food) 2. mines (for hammers) 3. road to move troops so you need less troops in 1 place when you are attacked (the Roman trick);

2. Settler to expand.

3. Granary to exploit the gain of food;

4. Scouts to find bonussen and look for new places (with water and possibilities to build mines);

5. Baracks, to build tougher soldiers than the barbarians;

5 Defensive soldier, warrior but better the archer, if possible yet. Depends on your investments in Science. Keep science at high (100%) as long as possible;

6. Walls to keep up yor defence as barracks add no more power to your soldiers;

7 back to 1....

A first shot just to start the discussion.
Anyone a better list?

Greetings,
Viator

Thank you vyeh, I wondered were you had gone…..

Found a link in a reply in civfanatics to the “unofficial patch” for SMAC/X and I popped up here.
Food for any SMAC/X fan!

Where I had gone?

I've still been at civfanatics.

So you post here rather than in the SMAC/X forum?

Viator, Sorry, I just noticed your post had gotten trapped by the moderation queue.

Please note the following:

This has led some users to belive that they are being censored, while this is not the case.

We have no forums where moderator approval of new posts is required and we have no users on any watchlist.

If you have not been banned you can post.

We are not totally sure what triggers these referrals of the postings to the moderator que. The most likely candidate is a built in a spam filter or possibly some database permission error.

We hope to have it resolved shortly, meanwhile if you experience a new post does not appear please alert the mod of the forum used by PM.

Speaking about mother Civfanatics, in the Civ4 Files Update I find nothing about SMAC/X except the great Planetfall-MOD for Civ4.
Never a word about the unofficial patch that I noticed.

You do not do mods here?
This is what buster, CGN owner, says:

CFC has problems with the patch because it is a modified executable file. I have sent a message to Thunderfall, CFC owner. I hope to find ways in which the patch can get official approval as far as CFC is concerned.

CFC does mods very well. We are not interested in moving into an area with the intention of being second best. If there were a situation where no other site (CFC, WePlayCiv and Apolyton) would host a mod, we would consider hosting it, depending on the amount of resources it would require.

If you are interested in starting an alternative Civ 4 community here (because CFC/Apolyton/WPC isn't covering an aspect of Civ 4), that would be withing buster's mission statement and I would be happy to help you.
