Help File

I'm currently upgrading Kevin's help file from a Word document to a HTML Help file (like the help for Windows 98 onwards).

MvW/Kevin: Do you know how to link programs to help files? I have some documentation I could send if you don't...

Chris: yes, please send what you have. I'm sure I have it somewhere buried in my documentation, but if you have it handy, please send it on.

Kevin,

The file is too big for your inbox so I'm currently uploading it to freespace.virgin.net/de.w...mlhelp.chm

I'm also going to upload the new manual to freespace.virgin.net/de.w...n/Help.chm if you want to take a look.

Cool, the help file isn't amazing (yet), there are no links between pages and I need to split the pages up more...but that isn't a neccessity at the moment.

Kevin, have you managed to start a program with the graphical interface? Don't worry if you haven't...

Sorry, do you mean starting from the help file, or having a game program separate from the map editor? If the former, no. If the latter, I have something running, but it doesn't do anything but open a new game, an existing game, or quit. It has a map and minimap, and you can pan around, but that's it so far. However, I did use one of cousLee's maps as background to the opening dialog, so that is something, at least....I trying to integrate unit movement, and that means adding an animation loop, which I' m working on right now.

I actually meant that thing I posted in the CGN forums a while back, it had a zip file containing text files and graphic files for the map editor to read and it gave it a graphical interface. I'm guessing that you haven't so don't worry about it...I'm not a programmer so I don't know how difficult it would be, so if you want to try and work out how to do it at some point feel free, but it isn't a prioriety.

OK, I remember that, but don't know if I have a version. I'll check my mail archive. The syntax may need to be slightly different to fit my parser, but the inclusion of graphics elements in the .ini file is a good idea and will certainly help us to add new graphics. I'll add it to the list (am I a programmer, or what? )

Hey! I like the idea of being able to customize the game frame (not sure what you'd call it). I take it what you're talking about would be like the color schemes windows let you choose from. You could choose your fonts as well as the texture of the 'frame'.

Great idea!
